1. Who we are
CareerLyfe is run by Artech Future Technologies Limited, a Delaware company with its registered office at 131 Continental Drive, Suite 305, Newark, Delaware 19713, New Castle County, United States (“we”). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Our affiliate in Nigeria, which we own and oversee, processes data on our behalf under the same rules. Questions and requests go to privacy@careerlyfe.com.
2. What CareerLyfe is
CareerLyfe is a simulated workplace. You take a job at a fictional company, work shifts made of tickets, and your decisions are recorded and graded. The graded work becomes a proof that you own and can choose to share with an employer. Everything about the companies, the pay and the colleagues is simulated. Your decisions, your messages and your grades are real data about you, and this policy is about those.
3. What we collect
| Data | Where it comes from | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | You, at sign-in | To sign you in by emailed link and to tell you about your account, a bug you reported or a request to verify your proof |
| Display name, nationality, avatar and the look of your character | You, in your profile | To show you to colleagues on the office floor and in chat |
| Everything you do on a shift: the options you choose, the reasons and confidence you give, code and queries you submit, revisions, hints you ask for | The product, as you work | Grading, your proof, your replay, and the feedback your simulated manager gives |
| Your exchanges with the in-product AI assistant on tickets that offer one | You, in the assistant panel | Grading how you work with AI; shown on your replay |
| Team chat messages, direct messages and reports of messages | You and your colleagues | The simulated workplace; moderation |
| When you are at work and where on the floor you are | The product, while you use it | Presence for your colleagues at the same simulated company |
| Your browser, screen size, theme, the page you were on and recent page errors, plus screenshots or screen recordings you attach | You, when you report a bug | Fixing the bug |
| Gender, ethnicity and age band | You, only if you choose to, on an employer challenge | A fairness audit of employer shortlisting, in aggregate; never shown to employers or anyone else by name |
| Your network address and browser identifier | Your device | Rate limits, abuse prevention, the sign-in record, and the record that you accepted these terms |
| Payment status | Stripe | Knowing whether your Career Pass is active. We never see or store your card details |
4. Why we may process it (legal bases)
- To provide the service you asked for: the contract between us (the terms).
- To keep the service safe and fair: our legitimate interest in preventing abuse, moderating chat and limiting cost.
- Optional demographic answers: your consent, which you can withdraw by clearing them.
- Account and billing records: our legal obligations, including tax and consumer law.
5. AI processing
Parts of your work are read by large language models: the reasons you give on key decisions, your exchanges with the AI assistant, and some shift grading. AI models also play your simulated colleagues and manager, so the messages you send them are read by a model. We use a third-party model provider (currently DeepSeek) under terms that do not allow it to train on your data. Every grade a model gives has a deterministic fallback, and a person decides anything that affects another person. The methodology page explains what is graded and how.
6. Who sees what
- Colleagues at your simulated company see your name, your character, whether you are at work, and what you post in team chat.
- People you share a link with see your proof or a replay. Links are private until you create one and can be revoked at any time. A revoked link stops working.
- Employers who set a challenge see the graded replay and signals of candidates who took it, by name. They never see demographic answers. A person at the employer decides; nothing on CareerLyfe decides who is hired.
- Instructors running a cohort you joined see your progress and readiness.
- Our staff see what moderation, bug fixing and support need, under access controls, and every staff action is logged.
7. Who we share it with (processors)
We use providers to run the service, each under a contract that limits them to our instructions: hosting and databases (Fly.io, London region), cache (Upstash), file storage for bug attachments (Tigris), email delivery (Resend), payments (Stripe), edge protection and the human check on sign-in (Cloudflare), and the AI model provider in section 5 (DeepSeek).
Your data is stored in the United Kingdom (London). It is accessed from the United States, where we are based, and from Nigeria, where our affiliate works, and some providers above are outside the UK. For people in the UK and the EU, each of those transfers rests on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the EU standard contractual clauses, or on an adequacy decision where one exists.
8. How long we keep it
- Sign-in links: 15 minutes. Sessions: 15 minutes of inactivity, at most 14 days.
- Your account, shifts, grades and proof: while your account exists. Delete your account and they go, except billing records we must keep.
- Team chat and direct messages: anonymised 90 days after you leave the company they were posted at.
- Employer notes about you on a challenge: cleared 180 days after the challenge closes; the decision and outcome counts stay as numbers.
- Bug reports and attachments: until the bug is closed, then 90 days.
- Audit records of staff actions and of your acceptance of these terms: while your account exists and for 90 days after it is deleted, unless a legal claim requires longer.
9. Cookies and local storage
One cookie keeps you signed in. It is set only after you sign in, is not readable by scripts, and is sent only to our own site. Your browser also keeps your theme choice and a few conveniences such as a draft bug report locally; nothing in them leaves your device. We use no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking.
10. Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict processing, and take your data elsewhere. Your proof is yours: you can download it and share it as you see fit. Write to privacy@careerlyfe.com and we answer within one month. If you are in the UK you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk; in the EU, to your national data protection authority. People in the United States have the rights their state’s law gives them, and the same requests work.
11. Age
CareerLyfe is for people aged 16 and over. If we learn that someone younger has an account, we delete it.
12. Changes
When this policy changes in a way that matters, we raise the version above and ask you to read and agree again the next time you sign in. Smaller wording changes update the date only.
